I’m fifty+ years old and have been designing knitting patterns and teaching for about four years+. I don’t have any formal training in the arts but do consider myself a designer. I love to play with color and texture in many fiber mediums including knitting, crochet, quilting, weaving, and needlework and collect innumerable books on any subject.
My Bachelor’s degree is in Business (go figure). My ten year career was with the University of Utah in Human Resources as an Employment Interviewer. After retiring I worked for a couple of years in Nancy Bush’s yarn shop the ‘Wooly West’. Now I work one day a week at the Metro Wine Store in downtown Salt Lake City. I’ve been married to the same guy for the last twenty+ years. We have three cats and live in a house the size of a shoe box (but a fabulous shoe box – think Jimmy Choo).
I love to cook and knit. I also love classical music and wine. I look for any excuse to travel as I love visiting other cultures and meeting new people. You can also find me at Ravelry under the name of ‘elyoung’.
In this photo I am staying with my friend, Nawal, in her home in Casablanca, Morocco. I’m wearing a ‘jellaba’ and the jewelry (tiara, earrings, necklace, belt)are real gold! My hands and feet are painted with henna (a bridal tradition). Notice the zellij (tilework) in the background. Each piece is inlaid by hand.
